The Purdue University College of Health and Human Sciences is the second largest college and one of 11 major academic divisions, or Colleges, of Purdue University. Undergraduate majors in the College of Health and Human Sciences provide preparation for professional school (medical, dental, physical therapy, occupational therapy, audiology, speech pathology, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, etc.) and outstanding careers. The Hospitality and Tourism Management program has been ranked first in the United States. During 2014, Lyle's-Porter Hall for interprofessional health was established on Purdue's campus housing clinical space for the academic units of Speech Language Hearing Sciences (SLHS), Nursing, Nutrition Science, Health and Kinesiology, and Psychological Sciences as well as the IU-School of Medicine- West Lafayette; students selected to continue medical school on the Purdue campus have the opportunity to receive a PhD from Purdue and MD from IU. During Summer 2016, a new T3 MRi facility will be constructed across from Lyles-Porter to add a human medical imaging facility to the West Lafayette campus.

History

The College of Health and Human Sciences was established in 2010 from the realignment of several existing academic units at Purdue. These included the School of Nursing, the School of Health Sciences, the College of Consumer and Family Sciences, and several departments of the College of Liberal Arts.

Rankings

The college's Hospitality and Tourism Management programs - undergraduate, master's and doctoral - have been ranked first in the nation by both industry recruiters and an evaluation conducted by Virginia Tech that applied the U.S. News & World Report methodology to the academic unit level. Additionally, Purdue's speech pathology graduate program is ranked number 5 in the nation, tied along with Northwestern University and University of Wisconsin - Madison according to the U.S. News & World Report. Aside from these rankings, there are no current national rankings for Health and Human Sciences Colleges. While no ranking system exists, Purdue's Radiological Health (well known for protecting individuals from nuclear radiation), Environmental Health, and Occupational Health programs consistently have 100% job placement rating.

Accelerated Degrees

Aligning with Purdue's goal of providing higher education at the highest proven value, the College of Health and Human Sciences offers multiple accelerated graduate/professional degrees. Undergraduate students across Health and Human Sciences have the opportunity to complete an accelerated Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with concentrations in Family and Community Health, Environmental Health Sciences, and Health Statistics. Students in Radiological Health Sciences with a concentration in Pre-Medical Physics have the opportunity to complete an accelerated 5-year (4+1) degree in Medical Physics; students must choose a track in either Diagnostic Imaging or Therapeutic Radiological Physics (radiation oncology). Outstanding students majoring in Health Sciences Preprofessional have the opportunity to complete an accelerated MBA through the Krannert School of Management. Undergraduates in Occupational Health Sciences have the opportunity to complete an accelerated 5-year master's degree in Industrial Hygiene. Gaining acceptance to these programs will allow students to obtain B.S. and M.S. degrees in only five years, saving one full year of tuition and adding a year in the workforce!
